Harvest and Art Quilts

Life …

The farm hands discuss what needs to be done next.

They needed me …

… and Emily to help transport the combine headers west of Brooksville.

Now Perry is ready to roll.
IMG_8379

He cut out a swath of beans for me to park the header trailer. I pulled around and tried backing up, but it didn’t work very well. So I unhooked it and let it sit right where it was. Then I went to pick up Emily further on down the road.

… as a Quilter

Work in Progress – I continue to work on my “lily” quilt. After quilting the background, I fused on the black shapes and then marked lines to stitch the bottom of the lily and stems with my walking foot.

Finished – Emily has finished another art quilt, “Soup’s On.” It is mounted around a 10X10 canvas stretcher. $45.

Kirby, the amazing rocket powered flying Jetman!

… as a Quilter

Emily finished her “fractured quilt.”

She and Perry plan to go back to Texas this week. I hate to see them go!

Design Wall Monday with Patchwork Times

I’ve done some repining but nothing much has changed.
IMG_8352

I did try using sharpies and alcohol to color a small piece of fabric in the top right hand corner, but I’m not real fond of the process. And Dana sewed the bottom row of her “wonky blocks” together.

Life as a Quilter

Life …

In the morning …
IMG_8249

… and in the evening, I will give thanks.
IMG_8166

I attended a bridal shower for Cindy Mast.
IMG_8237

These days you need to watch where you walk or you will become tangled in a web like what happened to Paul. It was dark yet and he was heading out early in the morning and walked right into one of these traps. When he got into his truck a spider was dangling from his arm.

Stacy had a birthday and turned 4.

Guests this evening for pizza were Russ, Loretta, and Allie from MO who are visiting Joel & Sheila. Russ and Sheila are cousins.

Emily’s Red Bird Quilt and Design Wall Monday

Emily has already finished another fiber art quilt she is calling “Red Bird.”
IMG_8121

It measures 12”X15”.

I love the beads she added for berries that you can see in this detail shot.

Design Wall Monday

Dana’s nine wonky blocks are waiting to be sewn together.

My rooster quilt on the left is folded/rolled up to make room for some blocks that I pulled out of storage. I started making a sampler quilt years ago and got sidetracked. Now I’m thinking maybe I should just finish each block separately making them into little fiber art wall hangings.

Maybe I’ll look at them for a while and see if any other inspiration strikes.

Cleaning, Finishes, Setting Sage, and Autumn Maple Quilts

Before I get to the “finishes” I want to tell you about …

Life …

We had our fall church cleaning today. Veronica ran the sweeper.
IMG_8011

Angie washed windows.
IMG_8002

And we had lots of other help that made the job go fast. I got to clean the sewing closet. It’s a walk-in style and big enough room to have a small Sunday School class.

In the big closet is the smaller closet where we keep finished quilts and comforters, batting, a box of scraps to be cut into carpet strips, and then on the bottom right are the tubs we use for our  communion and feet washing service.
IMG_7994

I like these shelves that hold the fabric, backings, and projects in progress.
IMG_7993

And now, it’s all clean.

… as a Quilter

Perry and Emily came this week. Perry to help with bean harvest and Emily to ... sew with me?

Remember how she started this little art quilt HERE and HERE? She added a tree and then spooled out thread for the leaves and covered the thread with tulle and stitched over it.
IMG_7984

And now it is finished!  She is calling it “Setting Sage.” It measures 14”X12” and is for sale for $99.00.
IMG_8035

Emily also brought along her “fractured chevron quilt” and today got it all pin basted and ready to quilt.

Fractured QAL

I continue to work on my “lily” quilt.
IMG_7973

I’m still trying to decide what color of thread to use on my lily, so I decided to make a small art quilt with a sampling of the thread on the black fabric.
IMG_8045

I’m calling it “Autumn Maple.” It measures 12 1/2” X 12 1/2” and is for sale for $75.00.  SOLD

The back has “fast finished triangles”  ready for hanging.

Dana finished all 9 wonky blocks and is ready to sew them together.

Her twin sister Sarah came for a friendly visit today. They both have bubbling personalities and they both love cats!
