Life

Life ...
I enjoy the pond out in front of the house so much.

Paul needed to move the combine, so he ...

unhooks the header onto the trailer and ...

... away he goes. I was glad that I didn't have to pull the header this time.

Our farm helper, Bronson has been loading and hauling cotton bales for many days now.

One day I looked after some of our grandchildren. They sneaked a bowl of party mix out to the playground equipment.

Corn for Heritage Bible School

Life ...
Paul reads to Kirby, Stacy, and Ashton.

Our church put up corn for Heritage Bible School.
It didn't take long to husk 20 bushels.

Many people showed up to help clean and silk the corn.

Ready for the cooker.

Cooking

Cooling

Cutting it off the cob.

Scraping out tubs of cut corn to be ...

... bagged in gallon bags.

And then of course, we could eat all we wanted.

Life and a Quilt for Delta Joy

Life ...
I love to hear the singing of children playing church.

This is one reason among many that I don't enjoy gardening! But I am going to look forward to some pretty dragon-wing begonias in a few weeks.

Whenever the rain stops and the land dries up, the men are kept busy in the fields.

... as a Quilter
I finally finished a quilt for Delta Joy. I had this "rail fence" top finished for a couple years and it was only just recently that I decided it would make a nice grandchild's quilt.

So I pieced her name in big letters and framed it with borders and strips to make a back for her quilt. Now it's reversible.

Delta's momma hung it across the balcony railing and Delta couldn't get up there fast enough to get it down. She was claiming the quilt for her own!

I am thankful for a handyman of a husband. My little featherweight quit sewing and I couldn't figure out why. When I packed it up I found a tiny little screw on the table so I picked it up for safe keeping. When Paul had time, he looked at the machine and found the problem and sure enough he needed that little screw to make it sew again.

Crop Dusting and Springtime

Mr. Matt the crop duster.

He flies so very low.

Coming around for another pass.

County line fence row on County Line Road.

Paul said the yellow weeds are "John Deere" grass.

Heading home!

"Bumbo" and Life

I am trying to streamline the process of my "Lily" class; so I sent the background fabric through the printer and printed a grid onto the fabric. ... (I think I've found another way I'll like better yet. Pounce with a grid!)

Anyway, here's "Bumbo!" I used a light creamy thread to free motion embroidery highlights in and around the elephant.

Next I layered the backing, batting, and the top. Oh, the fun of straight line quilting.

Then I decided to do some more stitching, highlighting in and around the elephant again.

The back is complete with a label and a hanger.

It was so pretty on Saturday. The boys pulled out the "Leagle Eagle" ultralights and flew over to the neighbors fly-in for lunch.

Paul took me for a Saturday evening drive and stopped along the way for me to take pictures.

This cattle corral is just up the road from our place right next to the iris field. I need to go back soon to capture more of the iris' in bloom.

Of special interest to Paul was the corn emerging through the ground.

We stopped along Joel's fish pond before heading home.

Life and Funerals

Paul and I had a short trip to Florida for his SLM meeting. As we traveled I was able to stitch the hem of a dress.

We had supper at Der Dutchman Restraunt in Sarasota. I enjoyed my view of Paul across the table and this quilt design made of wood.

I can't imagine doing life without my sister, Coleen.

It was a special treat to be with Ella from Romania.

All too quickly it was good-bye Florida!

One afternoon I had a pleasant surprise and wonderful visit with Sharon and her mother Tressa Knepp. Sharon was so happy and cheerful and helped me prepare pizza in spite of just finishing a round of chemo.

Within one week's time we had 2 funerals at our church. Stanley Schrock was a loved and respected man with undying love for his wife Anna. He will be greatly missed.

The 2nd funeral was for Diane Lee, Jeff and Kathryn's 28 year old daughter.

We will greatly miss both of these people and the inspiration they were to each of us.
With each funeral, I'm reminded anew of our 20 year old son Brian who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2004.
